Tooting is a district in the London Borough of Wandsworth, about five miles from central London. According to a recent article in the Evening Standard, Tooting was recently dubbed “the new Shoreditch”, and is fast becoming THE place to be south of the river. The first thing you will notice when you arrive in Tooting is the hustle and bustle around the Broadway. The shops and markets in Tooting are lively and colourful, and you will find arguably the best curry in London here. In fact the restaurant and bar scene in Tooting is one of London’s best kept secrets. And rather than shout about it, the people who live here are very keen to keep it that way!

What makes Tooting a great place to live

Well connected

Tooting Broadway and Tooting Bec are on the Northern Line, and it takes less than 25 minutes to get into the City. Tooting’s National Rail station also serves Blackfriars in 25 minutes and St Pancras in 37 minutes. If you’re a cyclist, then you will love the fact that Tooting is on the CS7 cycle superhighway, offering a faster and safer cycle route into the City. There are also numerous bus routes serving Tooting, both into central London, and out west to the likes of Wimbledon, Kingston and Richmond.

Foodie Heaven

Tooting is home to some of the best culinary hidden gems in London. There are many new ‘hip’ arrivals with headlining top chefs and food for every palate. Tooting is however best known for its curry and dosa houses such as Radha Krishna Bhavan’s, Dosa n Chutney, Mirch Masala and Lahor  Karahi. It’s worth checking out some of the newer additions such as Chicken Shop, part of the Soho House group, and Rick’s, run by former head chef at the Chelsea Arts Club.

A Great Night Out

Tooting has plenty of pubs and bars for every type of clientele, whether you’re looking for some locally brewed ale, or a cocktail or two. You can find culture at the Tooting Arts Club, and you can dance the night away underneath a spectacular chandelier at the Tooting Tram and Social.

Green Spaces

Tooting boasts a large open area, popularly known as the Tooting Commons. The commons are home to Tooting Bec Lido, the largest open-air fresh water swimming pool in England at 90 metres long and 30 metres wide. There’s also the beautiful Wandle trail walk, which is a 14 mile route from Croydon to the Thames at Wandsworth.

Why Invest In Tooting

Admittedly it’s not quite the ‘bargain’ it used to be, but in comparison to the more affluent neighbourhoods of Wimbledon and Clapham, Tooting still offers property hunters more for their money. With quick and easy links into central London, Tooting is ideal for the commuter. Transport for London are currently investing millions into the Northern Line, which is set to increase capacity by 20% and speed by 18% by the end of 2014. At the heart of Tooting is St George’s hospital which is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK and provides a huge amount of employment for the area.
